20 years ago today, a New York judge named Titone (stop snickering) handed down a ruling that said, in part, that the police who had arrested a woman for going topless in public “have offered nothing to justify a law that discriminates against women by prohibiting them from removing their tops and exposing their bare chests in public as men are routinely permitted to do.” The legalese goes on a while, but the gist is this: women can uncover their bodies exactly when, where, and to whatever extent men are allowed to do so.
20 years! Some of our younger members have never known a New York where a woman’s breasts were considered indecent. Would that more cities were as sensible as New York, and that more judges were as wise as Titone.
End of history lesson. But now comes your homework: go take advantage of this right! Shirts off, sisters. A right unused is a right forgotten.

“A right unused is a right forgotten.”
–Amen!
Every year we get closer to European attitudes towards the nude human body. I think this is wonderful.
Reblogged this on home clothes free.
Keep up the good work! We’re all human and we’re all the same underneath the clothes.
I’ve been enjoying your posts almost from the beginning. I’m glad you’re exercising your rights and doing your part to make toplessness more normal.
One thing I’ve been wondering: I’ve noticed that most of the women in the photographs are, well, quite photogenic: slender, mostly young. I hope that women whose looks are less celebrated by society are welcome and join in the reading fun occasionally, even if they may prefer not to be photographed.
Everyone’s welcome. Our members are not all slender and not all young. Of course when choosing photos to post we pick ones we think look nice, but if you take a closer look you’ll see a wide range of body types and ages.
I’m very, very glad to hear that. I hope I didn’t come across as accusatory; I didn’t mean to. Just wanted to be sure.
